Spring is finally among us! Temperatures are getting warmer, flowers are blooming, and everyone’s getting ready for fun times in the sun. For many people, that includes scheduling a spa day with a pedicure, paraffin wax treatment, and foot soak to get dry, cracked feet smooth and ready for open toe shoes. What if this doesn’t fit in your budget or schedule? We’ve got you covered.
Follow these easy 4-step at home treatment for moisturizing those neglected winter feet and getting them glowing for spring!
#1 Start with a DIY Foot Soak
There are many types of DIY foot soaks you can do at home, with minimal supplies. You can make foot soaks for achy feet, circulation, and detoxification with materials easily found at your local grocery store.
For our purposes, try an exfoliating foot soak. Fill a bathtub or water basin with very warm water. Add 1-3 cups of white or apple cider vinegar, the juice of 1-3 fresh lemons, and 2 cups of Epsom salt. Before putting in the Epsom salt, gently rub it on your feet to enhance the exfoliating effect.
#2 Use a Pumice Stone to Remove Dead Skin
After completing the exfoliating soak, use a pumice stone to remove the dead skin and callouses. A pumice stone is a natural lava stone that helps gently remove buildup from the feet. It’s important to complete a foot soak before using a pumice stone, as it will soften the feet and make the pumice stone more effective.
Pumice stones are extremely accessible and affordable. You can find pumice stones online or in your local drugstore for 5-10 dollars.
#3 Paraffin Wax Treatment
A game changer when it comes to soft, glowing feet is paraffin wax. Completing these treatments at home is typically much more affordable than in a spa and allows you to do the treatments on your own time to fit your schedule.
To complete a paraffin wax treatment, melt the wax in the paraffin wax warming bath and dip your feet into the melted wax. The temperature should be very warm, but not hot enough to burn or irritate skin (typically around 125F). Once your feet are coated in several layers of wax, wrap them in paraffin wax booties and allow the wax to harden. After peeling the wax off, your feet will feel smooth and refreshed!
#4 Finish with a Thick Moisturizer
The last step to this at home foot treatment is applying a thick foot cream or lotion. To deeply moisturize, complete this treatment before bed and reapply the paraffin wax booties after applying your moisturizer. This insulates the moisturizer, stops it from getting all over your sheets, and gives the lotion all night to sink in.
With this extremely simple, affordable 4-step process, your feet will be smooth, glowing, and looking absolutely perfect in your favorite pair of strappy sandals or open toe heels. You’re welcome!
